Toppan Receives Demanding "ISO/IEC 27001:2005" Certification for Information Security Management Systems at Semiconductor Photomask Plants

Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. (hereafter Toppan Printing; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Naoki Adachi) has obtained the international standard for information security systems, "ISO/IEC 27001:2005", at 2 of its semiconductor photomask plants: Toppan Printing Co., Ltd's Asaka Plant (Niiza, Saitama, Japan) and Toppan Photomasks Korea (Ichon, Korea), a subsidiary of Toppan Photomasks, Inc. (TPI).

The Asaka Plant is the first semiconductor photomask manufacturing site to obtain the ISO standard in Japan.

In addition, TPI's Round Rock Plant (Texas, USA) successfully completed a third-party audit for ISO/IEC 27001:2005 and expects to receive official certification in February 2008. The company plans to seek certification next at its joint venture semiconductor photomask production facility, Toppan Chunghwa Electronics Co., Ltd. (TCE), located in Taoyuan (Taiwan), by the end of 2008.

In the semiconductor photomask business, semiconductor manufacturers require photomask manufacturers to objectively show they maintain high levels of safety and stability for confidential information management in their photomask manufacturing processes since they deal with highly confidential data for semiconductor products. Increased interest in information security management throughout the entire industry is demonstrated by the rising number of customers who require manufacturers to obtain international standards such as ISO/IEC 27001 before orders are made.

In order to satisfy these requirements, Toppan Printing obtained the stringent international standard for information security systems, "ISO/IEC 27001:2005", following a third-party audit.

Toppan established a section exclusively for the preparation for this international standard and educated all the employees in related departments. Additionally, Toppan scrutinized work processes and established rules and systems to minimize the risk of information leaks.

Comment from Akihiro Nagata, Senior Managing Director and Head of the Semiconductor Solutions Division at Toppan Printing:

"As the world's premier photomask company, Toppan Printing has taken great care in dealing with the information and intellectual property which is entrusted to us by our customers. This ISO 27001 certification is evidence of third-party approval of our continuous efforts in information security management, and we believe it will lead to a high level of trust from customers. We will continue our efforts to develop an even higher-level information security management structure at all of our photomask manufacturing sites."
