Toppan Photomasks to Expand Ichon, Korea, Facility and Add Leading-Edge Production Line

Toppan Photomasks, Inc. today announced plans to expand its Ichon, Korea, facility. The expansion includes new clean room space and plans for the installation of an advanced e-beam pattern generator and associated support equipment for volume production of semiconductor devices at 90nm and prototype development at 65nm to support the growing Korean market.

"Toppan Photomasks is a leading technology partner of Korea's thriving semiconductor industry, and this expansion at its Ichon facility reflects the company's commitment to support our chipmakers' future needs," said Dr. Hak-Kyu Sohn, provincial governor of Gyeonggi Province, during a meeting at the company's corporate headquarters in Round Rock. "We are pleased that Toppan Photomasks is growing in Gyeonggi Province along with our semiconductor makers."

"Korea is one of the fastest-growing markets for photomasks. This expansion will extend our Ichon facility's past success and demonstrates that we will always supply our Korean customers with the technology they need to deliver the most advanced chips possible, including advanced logic and memory products," said Marshall Turner, president and chief executive officer of Toppan Photomasks.

Opened in 1991 and expanded several times, the Ichon facility serves the fast-growing Asian market along with production facilities in China; Japan; Singapore; and Taiwan, which are operated by Toppan Photomasks and Toppan Printing. Earlier this year, Toppan Photomasks announced plans to increase capacity at its Singapore facility, including the addition of a laser pattern generator line and inspection-and-support equipment. The company also recently completed a $30 million expansion of its Round Rock manufacturing facility that enabled volume production of devices at 90nm and prototype devices at 65nm design rules.
